Editorial standards
Faultpedia exists to give car owners clear, accurate answers about fault codes, symptoms, parts and repairs. This page explains how we create our content, the sources we rely on, and how to tell us if something is wrong.
How we research and write
- Every guide is written originally — we do not copy or spin other sites' content.
- Fault-code definitions follow the standardized OBD-II / DTC system (the SAE J2012 standard), so a code means the same thing across compliant vehicles.
- We prioritise the most common, highest-impact problems first, based on real-world fault-frequency data, not guesswork.
- Cost figures are realistic ballpark ranges (parts and labour) that vary by region, vehicle and parts grade — we label them as ranges, never exact quotes.
- Content is localised — not machine-translated — into English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, with local terminology and currency.
Our sources
- OBD-II / DTC standard (SAE J2012) — for what each fault code means and how the diagnostic system works.
- NHTSA — for official U.S. safety-recall data shown in our recall tool.
- Established automotive diagnostic practice and manufacturer service procedures for causes, symptoms and repair steps.
Accuracy and review
Each page is checked against standardized OBD-II reference data and reviewed for internal consistency before publishing, and we show a "last updated" date on every guide. We do not present Faultpedia as a substitute for a qualified technician: our content is general information to help you understand a problem before you fix it or visit a shop.
Affiliate links and ads
Some pages contain affiliate links to parts and tools (Amazon, eBay, AliExpress) and display ads. These never change our recommendations or the order of our content — diagnostic guidance always comes first. We may earn a commission from purchases made through affiliate links, at no extra cost to you.
Reporting an error
Found something inaccurate or out of date? Please tell us — we correct verified errors and update the page's "last updated" date. See also our About page and Disclaimer.
