Car Battery
What it is
The 12-volt battery stores the electricity that starts the engine and powers the electronics. Most cars use a lead-acid or AGM battery that wears out over a few years.
What it does
It supplies the big burst of current the starter needs and steadies voltage for the electronics. A weak battery causes slow cranking, no-starts and electrical glitches, and low system voltage can set P0562.
Symptoms of failure
- Slow cranking or clicking when starting
- Low system voltage code P0562
- Dashboard warning lights or flickering electronics
- Battery warning light
- Frequent need for a jump start
Common fault codes
Which vehicles need it
Every vehicle. AGM batteries are common on cars with stop-start; replace like-for-like.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a car battery last?
Usually 3–5 years, less in very hot climates. Slow cranking, needing jump starts, or a P0562 low-voltage code are signs it is near the end.
Do I need to register a new battery?
Many modern cars (especially with stop-start and AGM batteries) need the new battery registered with a scan tool so the charging system treats it correctly. Check your make before fitting.
